The Challenge

The client relied on a Content Delivery Network (CDN) solution that incurred high licensing costs, resulting in duplicative expenses. They aimed to migrate from their current CDN service to a more affordable solution that seamlessly integrates with their existing technology stack, specifically by leveraging Amazon CloudFront. This transition needed to ensure seamless migration of approximately 25,000 domains, maintain operational integrity without disrupting business systems or tools, and align with the broader organizational technology strategy while reducing costs.

The Solution

Our team conducted a comprehensive review of the existing CDN configuration, covering domains, redirects, caching rules, and security settings. We split the migration into manageable batches, prioritizing domains based on business needs and stakeholder feedback, each with a clear timeline for consistent delivery and testing. Our team diligently validated active domains, disabled those that were no longer in use, and implemented redirects, security settings, and caching rules customized for various regions and specific needs. We developed custom scripts using Python to facilitate seamless traffic migration and leveraged AWS SDKs to automate the configuration of CloudFront distributions. We also implemented dispatcher Apache HTTP server configurations, optimizing caching and enhancing security settings. Additionally, Exadel established a robust testing framework with both automated and manual test cases to validate changes in QA and production environments, using tools such as Postman and custom spoofing scripts for verification. Throughout the process, we engaged regularly with business teams to align with operational objectives and address change requests in real-time.
