Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) concerns the relationship between companies and society at large. Many feel that simply employing people and obeying legal regulations is not enough — that companies should go beyond these basic requirements and give back to society. This means that the purpose of a company is not just to pursue profit, but also to make the world a better place.
Here at Exadel, our commitment to the betterment of society is not just a primary initiative for our leadership, but an expression of our community as a whole. To that end, we have started to develop a number of programs to help local communities, promote environmental sustainability, and create educational and social programs that foster inclusivity while driving interest in core STEM subjects.
Since the end of last year, we have focused our planning on efforts on give back to the people of Belarus. After some careful consideration, we decided that providing opportunities for children to learn and grow in the IT world aligns the closest with what we offer as a company and what helps the country the most. Technology has made a positive impact on the lives of every individual at Exadel, and this is our chance to provide an opportunity for other people to experience that same transformation.
We know best about the growth and promise of IT, but we don’t necessarily know best how to organize charitable work. Realizing this, we decided to partner with an organization that does know best how to organize charity, Education for the Future. Education for the Future is a Belarusian charity organization dedicated to providing children with opportunities to learn about IT. They have partnered with many prominent IT organizations to make this a reality and we are proud to be a part of this dream. Working with Education for the Future allows us to take advantage of their proven skills and knowledge in building labs, working with local schools and communities, writing and implementing curriculum, and incentivizing teachers and learners alike.
Our First Project
As part of our partnership with Education for the Future, we are working on building a STEM Lab in Belarus where students will have access to hands-on tech and engineering education. The lab will include things like computer workstations, a teaching workstation, infrastructure, installation, robot programming kits, etc. We plan to continue building STEM Labs and promoting STEM-focused education initiatives in Europe and beyond in the years to come.
Our Initial Goal
Exadel’s educational and social program has one initial goal: to raise around $10,000 for a STEM Lab in Vileyka, Belarus. Our primary focus for now is on fundraising within our community. We will be running a series of charity events to raise money for the lab where every dollar raised will be matched by the company. We have committed to raising the funds by the end of the year.
So far we’ve held three events:
- Our first STEM Lab fundraiser incorporated the classic American game Bingo.
- Our second fundraising initiative was a game about guessing how many gummy bears are in a large jar.
- The third event was a flea market fundraiser, where participants brought unwanted things for their colleagues to purchase. All unsold items will be donated to the Belorussian Red Cross in the near future.
Through these three events, we are proud to have raised almost $1,000 to support local STEM programs with about 100 people having participated so far. We are so grateful for the support and for the growing momentum of this initiative!
